Contacting Cricsheet

Before you get in touch check out the information below which may answer any questions you have. If it doesn’t, do feel free to get in touch.

Questions you may be thinking of asking…

“What has the data for this match not appeared yet?”

A major (or not-so major) match is played and the data hasn’t appeared on the site yet? I’m probably busy with other things, like real life. This project is a labour of love for me, and I fit it around everything else I have going on. I’ll get to the recent matches when I have the chance, but there’s no guarantee of speed in this process. I try to update most days, but I won’t always manage it.

“Why does the number of runs/4s/6s for a player in this match not match Cricinfo/CricketArchive/Other?”

Was the match decided using a Super Over? Generally this happens when the runs scored in the super overs are counted for the player. Super Overs don’t count towards statistics, and in the vast majority of cases explain this type of discrepancy.

Obviously, your case might be different, and if it is feel free to get in touch!

“Why is this match missing?”

A match might be missing from the site for 1 of 3 reasons…

  1. I don’t cover the competition or period of the match, or,
  2. I can’t find a ball-by-ball source for the match, or,
  3. The ball-by-ball source is clearly incorrect, and I can’t resolve the issues.

If any of the above are true I won’t have the match, and I won’t be able to provide it without a correct source.

Request I can’t fulfill

Ball-tracking information

I don’t provide ball-tracking information, and I’ve no plans to. The Hawkeye data is presumably copyrighted, and I don’t think a reasonable case can be made to distribute it. If you really want Hawkeye data the best options are either to contact the company to see how much it would cost to get access, or to download the JSON used for it on various sites (such as the ICC) and parse it for personal use.

Custom datasets

Sadly I can’t provide custom datasets. I receive a surprising number of requests for these, including for data I don’t even provide in the existing data, and I don’t have the time (or inclination) to do that work. If you do want to get the data yourself I’ll happily answer question about how to approach the problem, but that’s all I’ll be able to do.

Batting/bowling types for players

I don’t store this information for any players, as I’ve never supplied it in the match data. I can see why people might want this, however it’s not something I’m planning to implement any time soon. There are too many issues I would need to resolve, such as sourcing the data, handling disagreements in any sources, dealing with multiple bowling styles for players etc.

Timestamps for deliveries in the match data

No, I don’t provide timestamps for individual deliveries, and I won’t be able to do that. I’m not sure anywhere actually does this with any degree of accuracy at the moment anyway.

Getting in touch

You can contact the project at stephen (at) cricsheet (dot) org. Feel free to get in touch, I love hearing about what people are doing with the data, or just to hear what you think of the project.

If you do get in touch it would really help me if you could mention which version/format of the data you are using (for example, CSV 1.6.0, or JSON) etc.
